Vendors I Love: LONG WEEKEND FLORALS

I met Ellen recently at a wonderful wedding in Brooklyn. Her work filled the rustic space and added such warmth. I also loved that once everything was set and the couple finished taking photos in front of the beautiful arch she created, she took a quiet moment to take it all in. And of course take some photos. Super excited to shine some light on Ellen Rothfuss of LONG WEEKEND FLORALS!

What was the path that led you to become a floral designer?

I started as an intern on a flower farm in Virginia, where I learned first-hand how much care goes into growing each flower. In addition to farming, the internship also included dabbling in floral design for weddings and events with the flowers we grew. As a lifelong creative, this quickly grew to be my favorite part of working with flowers. When I returned to New York, I dove head first into working and learning from other floral designers, before launching my own business in 2021.

What excites you about weddings?

I love that weddings bring together people from all aspects of life that likely have never met or may not ever meet again. All to celebrate the love of two people. There really is nothing like the electricity and excitement that that brings.

What do you look for in a couple?

A few things: 1. Excitement! My best experiences with clients have been those who are super excited about their day. 2. Trust. It means so much to me when a client trusts me to run with their idea. It allows me to create something really special, artistic, and unique for them. And 3. Bonus points if you're someone who really loves flowers and wants to make them a priority at your wedding.

What is the greatest compliment you’ve ever received?

I did the florals for my middle school boyfriend's older sister's wedding (yes, you read that right!) last year. When I handed her bouquet over on her wedding day, she started crying and told me that she hadn't cried at all that day until that moment. That was a really special compliment, and it meant a lot to me.

What do you desire for your business?

I want to work with clients who are looking to do something a little different with their florals. I love lots of texture, working with seasonal blooms, and unique color combinations.

What are you grateful for?

I am so grateful to work in a creative field and I still can't believe I get to do something that makes me genuinely so happy as a job! I will never take that for granted!

Any recent cause for celebration?

I'm celebrating the arrival of Spring with some exciting travel plans! My brother, parents and I are headed to New Orleans Jazz Festival later this month. I truly can't wait to share that experience with them. I've also been spending a lot more time outside in celebration of these warmer temperatures!
