Gratituesday 5.25.21 - Mind Body Connection

My business practice is centered the holistic connection between the body, mind and soul. I do this through my work with officiating, counseling and yoga. However, the integration is not complete. My yoga practice encompasses all 3, but the others do not. The officiating and counseling are all mind without full incorporation of the body.

So I experienced a nice paradigm shift yesterday when I mentioned my ankle injury on Instagram and Jennifer Zwiebel texted to ask how I was. She wrote that she also has a long history with left ankle injuries and a colleague of hers looked up the spirituality around the injury. I know, I know it may be a little ‘out there.’ However I teach the spiritual and physical practice of yoga, so why should the idea of a mind body connection be so weird?

According to a number of sources, when symptoms occur in the ankles, it can mean that we feel devalued with respect to the direction we decided to take, with the lifestyle we lead, or the course that our lives have taken. Any damage to the ankle tells us that we must put a stop to what we are doing on a daily basis and analyze what we really want to do.

Oy, that’s huge. Feel that paradigm shifting? Did I mentioned that I’m a Taurus and I dislike change?

My last ankle injury happened at the end of grad school, as I was teaching dance and performing. Four months before I performed my first wedding ceremony - an event that changed the trajectory of my life. Hmmm.

Lots to think about. Lots of reflection. Let’s start easy with my weekly list. I’ll get to the harder stuff in time. Times they are a-changin’…
