I met Suzette at one of the weekly Tuesday Together NYC virtual meetings. Her positivity was infectious, and I reached out to her directly during the meeting. When we spoke one to one, it was clear that we shared an immense passion for the work we do, including the wedding ceremony. But as a planner, Suzette has an amazing eye for detail. She is a wonderful collaborator and constantly looks for opportunities to not only deepen the experience of her clients, but also grow her business. Without further ado, here’s the brilliance that is Suzette Scarborough from ENVISIONED EVENTS BY SUZETTE!

What was the path that led you to become an event planner?

It started with my own wedding, many years ago. I did all of the planning myself and enlisted friends to serve as "Day of Coordinators," except I didn't know that's what they were called. I just remember reading "The Working Woman's Guide to Planning a Wedding" and that was one of the recommendations for a DIY bride. I found myself drawn into all the details and planning and LOVED every minute of it. Over the years, I've helped other friends and family members with weddings, birthdays, baby showers, family reunions and destination travel. But in 2017, I was planning a special birthday weekend with 23 girlfriends at a friend's successful bed and breakfast property. My friend made a comment about me taking my talent for event planning seriously and doing something with it. That was the first time I'd ever thought about doing what I loved as a business, but it made perfect sense. So, on June 26, 2017, Envisioned Events by Suzette was officially born.

What excites you about weddings?

The most exciting part of a wedding for me is when the doors open and the bride begins to walk down the aisle. It signifies her willingness to join her life with another, without hesitation. The beauty of that moment with everyone stopping to focus on these 2 people, coming together in matrimony. It's like nothing else matters at that moment. That's the pinnacle. There are so many other beautiful parts of the wedding day, but that is my favorite moment.

What do you look for in a couple?

I love when couples trust me with their special day. It's an honor to be invited into their lives to help them plan, design and orchestrate this amazing day. So, having a couple who knows that I am here for them and only want the best for them really matters. It's not just a job or gig for me. It's about their lives and the family and friends that they're inviting to celebrate with them. I look for couples who understand that I have the experience, along with the care, to bring their dreams to life. Of course, if they have no idea what they want, I can help them create it.

What is the greatest compliment you’ve ever received?

I've worked with some amazing couples who've been very vocal about their appreciation. One of my current brides introduces me to people as her "Wedding Angel." I have another couple who told me that I was their “Planner for Life” and am now a part of their family! So many amazing couples. I feel blessed to know that I'm appreciated.

What do you desire for your business?

I desire for my business to continue to grow and offer services across the country and internationally. I love creating experiences all over the world. I want to transport the love I have for what I do in my business and help my couples and clients celebrate anywhere in the world. No limits. I'm open to the possibilities that await.

What are you grateful for?

I'm grateful for so much. I'm grateful for feeling led and taking the risk of going into full-time entrepreneurship in August 2019. I'm grateful for being able to help my clients celebrate safely during a worldwide pandemic. I am grateful for my clients who trusted me and got more than they expected. I'm grateful for the ability to see beauty in my thoughts and work with others to bring them to life. I'm grateful for the opportunity to create. It's amazing.

Any recent victories?

Oh yes! A photo shoot I planned and designed with an amazing team of industry professionals in the Bahamas was published in the Spring/Summer 2020 issue of MunaLuchi Bride Magazine. I became a Founding Member of the National Society of Black Wedding & Event Professionals. I also launched a 3rd business, Etiquette Speaks on June 19, 2020. There are more exciting things on the horizon!

Let’s take a moment to celebrate along with Suzette!
