Vendors I Love: HUDSON FILMR
When I have time, I like to expand my business circle. There are so many talented and wonderful professionals in the wedding industry. I’ve worked with quite a few, but there are ALWAYS more. While weddings were on pause, it gave me the opportunity to research and reach out. Jason followed me on Instagram, and after looking at his feed, I followed him back. I love the point of view in his video. He’s very much in the moment with his couples, and his videos are warm and light. It’s clear that Jason creates a comfortable space, because his couples are so open and present. They allow their personalities to show though, and what’s captured is quite special. Super excited to shine some light on Jay. Without further ado, here’s JASON ALICEA from HUDSON FILMR.
What was the path that led you to become a videographer?
Well, I’ve always loved the idea of recording things, moments, people. My parents had one of the original Sony shoulder-mounted video cameras. They rarely let me use it, but whenever I did, it was a thrill. In 2012, I started a YouTube channel after being inspired by some tech YouTubers (I love gadgets). My interest quickly shifted to being more behind the camera as opposed to donning an on-screen persona. I sought out shooting opportunities everywhere and landed in real estate videography. Shooting homes and luxury apartments was amazing, but soon my clients wanted me to shoot videos of them pitching an offer or covering live real estate conferences. I was shifting from filming places to filming people. Weddings were the natural next progression for me. After a friend asked me to shoot his wedding (even though I was a guest), I was hooked.
What excites you about weddings?
I’ve always loved weddings, even as a guest. Most guys would never say that. But as someone who’s naturally more of an introvert, weddings have always afforded me the opportunity for what I call “sanctioned” socializing. Everyone is in a great mood and there’s always an interesting story about the couple.
What do you look for in a couple?
Although I’ve worked with different types of couples, my absolute favs are the type who are collaborative. They have an idea of what they want their films to look like and are able to communicate that vision. There have been many couples who aren’t really sure what they’d like in their video, and that’s totally fine. I’m happy to let my creative side take over, it’s what I do. But I love working as part of a creative team. Where the flow of ideas goes back and forth, and the couple takes an active role in both the video concept and also its execution.
What is the greatest compliment you’ve ever received?
The greatest compliment I've ever received was from someone who commented on a wedding video I posted to social media. They wrote, "I don't even know these people and I'm crying..."
What do you desire for your business?
What I desire most for my business is trust and reputation. I don't wish to become a large wedding film factory. Rather, my goal is to remain a smaller company that establishes relationships and provides the kind of personal service that my clients will not forget.
What are you grateful for?
I'm so grateful, at this time in history, for my health/well-being, but also the health and well being of those who are closest to me.
Any recent cause for celebration?
Well my wife and I recently adopted a Greyhound mix. She was found in a rural section of Georgia and was transported up the NY area by a no-kill shelter based in Long Island. Although she is not a purebred greyhound, she is still the fastest dog I've ever had. Poppy is very sweet and loving and enjoys playing with dogs in the dog park, but also snuggling on the couch.
Because, we cannot have too much joy at this time, here’s a fun video of Jay and Poppy at the dog park!
