Vendors I Love: SUNDAY BORN FILMS

I worked with Kwesi on a recent wedding in New Jersey. I love how organized he and his assistant were and it was clear from communication that Kwesi is a collaborator. When I finally had a moment to look at some of his highlight reels, they were cleverly edited together and dare I say, emotional! Without further ado, I’d like to shine a little light on Kwesi Peters of SUNDAY BORN FILMS.

What was the path that led you to become a videographer?

I took a few Moving Image Production classes in college and was known by a lot of my friends as the “video guy.” I didn't get a degree, but I had a YouTube channel at the time, and just enjoyed making videos. One of my best friends was getting married a few years after graduation, and he reached out and asked if I could film his wedding. I hesitantly said yes, but thankfully had great help during this first wedding back in 2014. After creating the video, the response was all positive, which is when I decided to pursue wedding videography seriously.

What excites you about weddings?

Finding the intricacies that make a couple's love story unique is what excites me the most about weddings. Most weddings have a similar structure of ceremony and then reception, so being able to find those in between moments, and showcase it in a video is pretty fun.

What do you look for in a couple?

It's a mix between a couple who respects the craft of storytelling that goes into a wedding film, as well as who understands the importance of preserving a big moment like a wedding day.

What is the greatest compliment you’ve ever received?

I guess my intuition when it comes to what I capture and how I make my films. A few brides have told me that I was able to give them their vision that they wanted for their wedding film without them having to micro manage what they wanted.

What do you desire for your business?

I desire to have a consistent amount of couples who want to share their story in a mutual style that resonates between how I tell my stories and how they want their story to be told.

What are you grateful for?

I'm grateful for art. Specifically storytelling. Outside of creating videos, I think it's important to preserve memories in general. Whether its through simply sharing stories during family get-togethers, or capturing the small moments on your phone or camera.

Any recent cause for celebration?

Yes! Rediscovering a sense of self that allows me to do my work without being too judgemental of the outcome. Separating the ego from the product and working in the benefit of the couple versus how it would make me look. I've struggled with that in the past. Though it's helpful to be liked and well known as a great videographer, the driving force for my work moving forward is the couple's satisfaction. So cheers to that!

Yes, cheers indeed!
