Vendors I Love - THE HOOK CLUB

I met Dan on a wedding I did a few years ago. Thankfully our paths kept crossing at more joyful events. I appreciate his communication leading up to the wedding day, however my favorite thing the passing of the torch after the ceremony and before the reception. The energy is vibrant as the band checks their sound levels and does a little rehearsing. It’s so vibrant and fun! I like to think that energetically I set them up, but I know it’s just their skill and love for what they do. Without further ado, I’m happy to shine a little light on Dan Vernam from THE HOOK CLUB.

What was the path that led you to become a band leader?

I have always loved being a part of couples' special day! I started playing weddings as a cello player when I was very young. During high school, I started playing bass in a few bands, then I went to college to study music performance. While at college, I met the musicians that would eventually make up the original lineup of The Hook Club. We started playing at bars and clubs on the weekends and eventually people started asking if we could play their weddings! After we graduated, people were still reaching out so we decided to make a legit wedding band, and the rest is history!

What excites you about weddings?

The music is an extremely important part of a wedding. Thankfully it is often one of the things guests are looking forward to the most. We get just as excited for the wedding - at the thought of being able to rock out with everyone and the couple with who we spent so much time planning!

What do you look for in a couple?

We look for two things. Couples who have an appreciation for live music and want it to be an integral part of their wedding. We love couples who use the music planning process as a way to dive deep into their music tastes. It’s great when they think hard about what their guests are going to love the most the day-of!

What is the greatest compliment you’ve ever received?

There was once a man in his late eighties at one of our weddings - he danced the whole night. Afterward, he came up and said "I didn't think I'd ever get to dance like that again, thank you!" It was just great to see the joy on his face and he still had moves!

What do you desire for the business?

I hope that we can continue to provide a great option for couples who are looking for a non-traditional wedding entertainment experience. Also that we continue to attract a diverse and wide-ranging group of couples and play different types of weddings.

What are you grateful for?

I'm grateful for all of the amazing musicians who have stuck with us all of these years, and for our continued good fortune with the band despite all the setbacks and the pandemic.

Any recent cause for celebration?

We just booked a wedding in Paris! We've been booking a lot of travel weddings in 2024. So we're celebrating the year that THC goes international!

Let’s wish them a hearty Bon Voyage! Please contact, check out, and follow THE HOOK CLUB online:
