Zen Weddings: PRIORITIZE SELF CARE

Wedding planning isn’t just time-consuming—at times it can feel downright overwhelming. As your Big Day approaches, you might find yourself feeling stressed and overwhelmed. Self-care is an extremely important component of daily life, that many often forget. However, prioritizing “me time” can bring a sense of Zen to the wedding planning process. Think of small self-care practices you can add to your day, and consider reducing things like binge watching or scrolling social media.

Here are some self-care ideas that can be interspersed with your wedding planning, so you can be a Zen bride or groom!

Nutrition

Many wedding couples go on crazy (and dangerous) crash diets in order to fit into dresses and suits. With tight schedules, others may forget to eat, or not know how to prepare and cook healthy meals. Nutrition is essential to your wellbeing and provides much-needed energy. If you need assistance with nutrition:

  • Consult a nutritionist or food coach to give you the tools you need to eat healthier

  • Look at online options to plan a balanced diet with an eye towards meals with portion sizes that match your goals

  • Try meal prepping or a convenient, healthy meal delivery service to help you stay on track

Health

What’s worse than being sick? BEING SICK ON YOUR WEDDING DAY! When we’re on overdrive, our immune systems are taxed and tired, leaving us susceptible to germs and viruses. That also goes for your mental health. While it very well might just be allergies or the common cold, compromised immune systems can often lead to the flu, bronchitis, upper respiratory infections, and more. Listen to your body and take steps to boost your mental and physical health.

  • If you have a cold or nagging cough that lasts more than a few days, visit the doctor

  • Call a close friend or family member to connect and laugh together

  • If you are uneasy or anxious, you may want to reach out to therapist or counselor

Exercise

Exercise strengthens your heart and improves your circulation. The increased blood flow raises the oxygen levels in your body and can increase energy. This includes endorphin-releasing and more intense exercise, as well as more gentle, low-impact movement. Exercise in any form is an incredibly important component of self-care and may help with weight loss, if desired.

  • Take a leisurely walk or bike ride after-dinner with your love

  • Go on a strenuous hike or run

  • Take a restorative yoga class by yourself or with a friend (there are tons of online options right now)

Relaxation

Regardless of your favorite way to relax and decompress, make sure to add it to your schedule. If it means crossing off an item on that wedding to-do list tomorrow, make peace with that so you can first make peace within yourself.

  • Light a candle & meditate

  • Put on some calming music and take a nap

  • Put on a face mask & relax

Do any of these ideas resonate with you? Do you find your body or mind put up a censor to a certain suggestion? If I missed anything or if you have a question, feel free to add to the comment section below.
