Gratituesday 9.22.20 - A Sweet New Year

gratituesday-a-more-perfect-union.png

This past weekend was the Jewish holiday Rosh Hashana. It celebrates the harvest, it gives us a chance to examine our lives and reflect on our righteousness and it starts the new year. I saw a few posts on Facebook from “members of the tribe” reflecting on the dumpster fire of the year we’re currently in and welcoming the opportunity to start anew. I certainly join in that sentiment. There are lots of wishes for these High Holidays.

  • L'Shana tova: "For a good year" in Hebrew.

  • Shanah tovah u'metuka: If you want to express the same sentiment but more elaborately, this phrase means "A good and sweet year."

  • L'Shanah tovah tikatevu v'tichatem: A Rosh Hashanah greeting that is even more specific, this one means, "May you be inscribed and sealed for a good year."

We Jews are all about the food! And as you can see from the second greeting, it’s all about SWEET! So, we dip apples in honey, have brisket with a ketchup-based sauce, heck, even the chopped liver was sweet! And this year, I made my first honey cake! I added cinnamon and cardamom, so it was spicy, too! As typical, there’s time for reflection and a chance to create my weekly lists. Care to join me? Great! I’ll start. The comment box is open to remark on mine or add you own. In the meantime, here’s to a sweet new year!
