Vendors I Love: STOLEN MAGNOLIA
For the most part, when I arrive at weddings to perform the ceremony, the florist is long gone. However, I see their beautiful work in the bouquets and boutinneres. Along with the couple, I stand in front of amazing arrangements or arches or walk down a lovel floral aisle. I worked with Delilah at a recent wedding at Wythe Hotel. Her flowers were so vibrant and colorful - exactly what the couple wanted. Without further ado, I am excited to shine some light on DELILAH DOMINGUEZ and her shop, STOLEN MAGNOLIA.
What was the path that led you to become a florist?
My parents were business owners. They actually owned several before I was born. Their most successful business was called Magnolia Greenhouse. The greenhouse offered a variety of seasonal goods and plants. My mom was the florist who would prepare arrangements and bouquets. I always admired their hard work. I was able to see first hand the ups and downs of running a business.
I always imagined owning my own business similar to Magnolia Greenhouse. In fact, I always imagined the family business would be passed down to me. However when my parents chose to retire, they sold the small business. I felt as if that dream was ‘stolen’ from me.
I went on to earn my degrees in Florida. After working Patient Accounting for a few years, I decided to return to NYC to pursue a career in floristry. I freelanced for many floral companies and designers. When until I was confident in my ability to launch my own business, I opened Stolen Magnolia!
What excites you about weddings?
Honestly, how it all comes together. I'm always so proud when our client sees their flowers for the first time. The pure joy and excitement is so heartwarming!
What do you look for in a couple?
The main trait I look for in my clients is trust. They need to be able to trust my team and I will create something absolutely breathtaking for them. If I feel that we aren't the right fit or if our vision and their expectation does not align, I will kindly express that to the client and suggest another florist.
What is the greatest compliment you’ve ever received?
The greatest compliment I have ever received was "It's more than we could have ever imagined, thank you!"
What do you desire for your business?
I desire my business to continue growing and serving our neighbors. We feel the sense of community and overall love from our clients and guests. I hope that continues to grow and we remain a staple in the Brooklyn community for years to come.
However, I am considering expanding and opening a second location. I believe it would be a great idea to expand our business in Florida during the winter months. Sales in NYC tend to take a bit of a dip because our clients prefer to get married and host events in warmer weather. So that may be on the horizon
What are you grateful for?
I am most grateful for the support of my family, friends and community.
Any recent cause for celebration?
We have taken on summer interns via the YMCA and they have been such a great help. I would like to celebrate them, all of their hard work and growth. It is really wonderful to teach our youth about floristry, customer service and business. Also providing them with the tools they need to succeed in this field. They have expressed the desire to continue learning and growing with us!
