WEDDING YOGA: Ways to Open Your Sacral Chakra
The sacral chakra is the seat of emotion. The second energy center (or Svadhisthana in Sanskrit) is about three inches below the navel, at the center of your lower belly. In the back, it’s located at the level of the lumbar vertebrae. Associated with the color orange, the sacral chakra governs our ability to initiate, nurture and maintain healthy interpersonal relationships. The second chakra governs the power of partnerships, how we begin to relate to others outside the family dynamic, the creative exploration of life and relationships, sensuality, and discovering the power of choice.
While the suggestions below are geared towards wedding couples, you can certainly look at these from a personal place. Where do you need to play with creativity and exploration? How can you deepen your sense of personal sexuality and your relationship with yourself? Allow yourself to be indulgent!
5 things you can do together to heal your second chakra
Put silky sheets on the bed: As the 2nd chakra is the center of sensuality, indulge in some sheets or pajamas that feel good on your skin. Or encourage physical touch or closeness with your partner.
Connect with water: The sacral chakra is connected to the element of water, so keeping your body hydrated will start the healing. Taking a warm bath complete with orange essential oils or going swimming in a natural body of water will also help get your sacral buzzing again.
Massage with essential oils: Break out the sandalwood, jasmine or ylang ylang oils and give each other a massage. An obvious sensual activity, this can also be a powerful and loving way to gift each other when it doesn’t result in sexual play.
Feed each other: Take turns feeding each other sweet foods - like bite-sized pieces of fruit or dark chocolate with a pinch of shredded coconut, or sprinkled with cinnamon. Be creative!
Get down with yoga: Take a couple’s yoga class or find online videos and create space at home to practice yoga side by side. Yoga poses that are great for healing your sacral chakra are hip-openers. These poses help create flexibility in your hips, allowing for greater freedom of movement.
5 yoga poses to open your sacral chakra include:
Yogi Squat (Malasana)
Low Lunge (Anjaneyasana)
Warrior II (Virabhadrasana II)
Triangle (Trikonasana)
Bound Angle (Baddha Konasana)
