Balancing the Root and Crown Chakras: Best Yoga Poses for Stability and Enlightenment
Wedding Yoga: THE CROWN CHAKRA
The crown chakra is considered to be the top of the chakra ladder. It connects you to the universe in the same way that the root chakra connects you to the Earth. Located at the top of the head, the crown chakra gives us access to higher states of consciousness as we open ourselves to what is beyond our personal preoccupations and visions. While most of the chakras are very physical, this one is super spiritual and ethereal.
Wedding Yoga: THE SACRAL CHAKRA
I refer to the chakras regularly in my yoga classes. In fact, they are the foundation of my wedding yoga practice. Yes, they can be a little ‘out there,’ but I have seen some a-ha moments using them with even some of my premarital counseling couples. Today I’m talking about the second chakra - Svadhisthana.
Wedding Yoga: The ROOT CHAKRA
I don’t remember when I first encountered the chakras, but I use them regularly in my yoga classes. In fact, they are the foundation of my wedding yoga practice. Let’s cut through the ‘woo-woo’ and get acquainted from the bottom to the top - starting with THE ROOT.
Wedding Yoga: Partner Yoga on Your Wedding Day
Imagine the morning of your wedding. There may be butterflies in your belly based on the excitment or stress of the day ahead. So you grab your partner, and jump on your yoga mats. After an hour of breathing deeply, and moving with intention, you give each other a kiss and say farewell as you start getting ready. How cool is that?
Wedding Yoga: BACHELORETTE PARTIES
If you’re more into crow pose than clubbing, how about a gathering with your gals for yoga and a cocktail party to follow? The new bachelorette party trend will leave you feeling refreshed, connected, and maybe even a little more flexible.
Opening the Heart Chakra in Couples Yoga
The heart chakra, or anahata, is one of the 7 chakras or energy centers that run up the central axis of the body. We practice heart openers in yoga as a gateway to our vulnerabilities. So grab a friend, your partner or your spouse and let’s get vulnerable together!
Wedding Yoga: Pranayama or Yogic Breath (part 1)
Yogic Breathing is the foundation of our yoga practice. I talk about deep breathing or meditating to find Zen and relaxation, especially as you plan your wedding. However, I rarely take a deep dive into pranayama.
WEDDING YOGA: For You and Your Squad (part 1)
Doing yoga with friends allows for better connection, support, and keeps your ego in check. Just what you need prepare for your wedding day. I mean we want to be Zen brides and grooms, right?
WEDDING YOGA: Ways to Open Your Sacral Chakra
The second chakra governs the power of partnerships, how we begin to relate to others outside the family dynamic, the creative exploration of life and relationships, sensuality, and discovering the power of choice. While the tips are geared towards couples, you can certainly look at these from a personal place. Where do you need to play with creativity and sensuality?
WEDDING YOGA: Poses for the Solar Plexus
Solo wedding yoga sessions for the Bride or the Groom focus on the 3rd Chakra - our center of clarity, self-confidence & self-assurance. As the rite of passage of marriage brings up questions of identity, we will meditate and play with poses that focus on our solar plexus.
Wedding Yoga: For Couples
I like to think about wedding yoga for couples as a physical counseling session. It is a fabulous medium for deepening relationships - whether it is friendship, a family member, or your significant other. Postures and flow sequences are designed to nurture and create a sense of light heartedness!

Why Practice Yoga Before Your Wedding
It’s such an honor to be part of a couple’s Big Day and one of my favorite ways start the morning is with a wedding yoga practice! I believe that your day is all about connecting – connecting to your future partner and your family and friends.
What is Wedding Yoga?
Wedding planning and the actual wedding day itself can be stressful. The ancient practice of yoga is known for bringing calm and focus to the body and mind through breath and movement. Don't believe me?
Bringing Yoga to Wedding Professionals
The folks at Gowanus Hospitality Group opened the doors of 501 Union this week for event professionals to meet, learn, co-work and be creative. They’re calling it Love Union. Each day started with a yoga or fitness class – and ended with some happy Happy Hour and workshop or movie. I was asked to lead a yoga class this morning and wanted to do something that mixed the Wedding Yoga and Zen Bride workshop that I offer my couples.
YOGA: Exercise vs. Spiritual Practice
My friend Tommy Housworth suggested this blog post over a year ago. In April of 2013, to be exact. I'm a little embarrassed that it's taken me so long to actually write it.
