Desire Wednesday 9.8.21 - Choices and Trade-offs

Every September my nose starts running, and my mouth gets itchy. I forget that I have fall allergies every year and think I am sick. Of course, in this time of COVID, I think that even though I’ve been careful, I finally caught the virus. It’s just seasonal allergies, folks. Once the first frost hits, it all goes away!

However, as I stood in the allergy section of my local drug store, I became overwhelmed with choices. I picked up box after box and looked at all of the symptoms each of the allergy pills relieve. I finally bought one that relieves sneezing, itchy eyes, runny nose, sinus pressure and congestion. I took a pill every 5 hours and I didn’t see much change. When I could finally breathe through my nose again, I realized that my throat was sore. Not only that, I have a horrible sounding cough and am starting to lose my voice. When I research things I should do to battle a sore throat, I see rest and hydration. But also to avoid any decongestants. Wait, what? So to focus on my tired voice, I can no longer take my allergy pills, oh, and coffee is also a decongestant, so I should avoid that, too! But I need my voice for weddings this weekend!

Oy.

So today I didn’t take my allergy pills and had a nice cup of camomile to start the day. Thankfully, my allergies didn’t kick in, but not having my daily coffee this morning caused me to drag most of the day. Sure, my throat is feeling better, but the trade-off has affected me in other ways. Oh, and now I have a headache!

I guess this this best possible scenario right now. However, I think I need to add coffee back in tomorrow and then pump up the water intake. I’m sure I’m not the only one to experience this. Has this happened to you? Or have you been faced with similar choices and trade-offs?

This reflection always expands to my weekly lists. A look at my desires, gratitude and victories. Care to join me in reflecting on the good? Awesome, I’ll go first. The comment section is always open to add your own lists or comment on mine. Off we go!
