Gratituesday 1.12.21 - Accountability

accountability-gratituesday-perfectunionny.png

In my premarital counseling practice, I guide the conversation to help strengthen relationships. However, I also encourage my couple to create goals and I hold them accountable. I have to admit I am pretty lenient here. I joke that if they don’t necessarily do what they said they were going to do, I don’t give demerits. But perhaps I should. Moving forward, I am going to ask my couples to state what they plan to do, but also ask what happens if they DON’T do what they say.

Accountability has been on my mind recently. After the insurrection at the US Capitol last week, many politicians who supported the president or who let it happen just want everyone to move forward. They’re calling for unity. Unfortunately that’s the same as my leniency. Instead I’m calling for accountability. These politicians and law enforcement took oaths to protect and defend. They clearly did not. These elected officials and officers are paid with our tax dollars. If they cannot do what they said they were going to do, what is the consequence? If there is no accountability, what is going to stop people from inciting violence or staying silent again?

I speak a lot about reflection, but we truly need ACTION NOW. Yes, it was a shitty week, but there’s also been some good. Who wants to join me in sharing my weekly lists? The comment section is always open below, or feel free to send email if you want to keep it private. And as always, in regards to those task-like desires…I’m happy to hold you accountable! Let’s go.
