Last week I lead a grounding mediation at a wedding industry event. Then over the weekend, one of my wedding couples and their siblings wanted to go through a little grounding ritual before the ceremony. I’m curious to know what’s going on to have people request this now. It may be the change of season or something else in the air.
Wedding Yoga: The ROOT CHAKRA
I don’t remember when I first encountered the chakras, but I use them regularly in my yoga classes. In fact, they are the foundation of my wedding yoga practice. Let’s cut through the ‘woo-woo’ and get acquainted from the bottom to the top - starting with THE ROOT.
The Chakras Explained - CROWN
After starting this series of posts last December, we finally reach #7 - the Crown or Sahasrara in sanskrit. The crown chakra is located at the top of the head or hovering just above. This energy center holds our aspiration, spirituality, inspiration and wisdom.

I don't believe any of you have been waiting with bated breath for the next installment of The Chakras Explained. But it does surprise me that I have not explained any chakras since January. Apologies. We're almost done as we hit #6 of 7.
The Chakras Explained - THROAT
As we travel up the spine, we head out of the more physical chakras and into the more spiritual ones. Number 5 and I have a love/hate relationship.
The Chakras Explained – HEART
We’re halfway there as we reach the heart. The fourth energy center is located in the center of the chest and the mid-back. Called Anahata in Sanskrit it translates as ‘un-beaten’ or ‘unhurt.’

As we travel north in the body, we reach the third chakra. The solar plexus. If you want to go back and read about the first two before you proceed, you can find them in the list to the right.
The Chakras Explained – SACRAL
The chakras are a band of energy flowing through the midline of the body. They follow the line of the spine, if that helps solidify the ideas around energy – or something that may be FELT, but not seen. I use the chakra system regular in my wedding yoga practice.
