Gratituesday 3.24.20 - Embrace Calm
As we isolate at home, we're doing our best to stay connected. However, we're forgetting to embrace calm. We're searching for answers, but it's hard to distinguish fact from fiction. We're trying to work, and stay informed, but it's largely overwhelming. That's when we HAVE TO embrace calm.

Respecting Boundaries in our Current Crisis (part 1)
On Friday, I got an email from one of my PM Counseling couples with their agenda for the next session. I usually see "Family Relationships" or "Finances," but what I got was "Respecting boundaries during isolation." So when wedding planner, Amy Shack Egan from Modern Rebel asked me to join her on Instagram LiveStream to talk about couple's wellness and her first question was "For couples working from home - what are small ways to draw boundaries + be intentional about alone time?" I was totally ready!

Gratituesday 3.17.20 - Physical Distance!
There was that theatre game I did with my Drama 10 students at UC Davis where we walked around the room and they selected someone to stay as far away from and someone who could offer protection. After playing with each individually, I guided them to walk around and make sure that placed their protector between them and the person they selected to stay away from. Did anyone else play or teach this game?

Gratituesday 3.10 - Happy Holi!
Today is not only Gratituesday, it's the Indian holiday, Holi. So, Happy Holi, everyone! Holi is a festival to celebrate the full moon, Spring, lots and lots of color and just love, in general. So, while the entire world is freaking out about the coronavirus/COVID-19, we can do our best to celebrate joy, happiness and laughter!

Gratituesday 2.25.20 - Surplus!
Hi, my name is Hope, and I have an umbrella problem. An umbrella surplus problem, to be exact. I own about 10 umbrellas, but then I fail to check the forecast and get caught in the rain. So I either grab one from hotel coat checks or lost & founds, or buy a brand new one. I'm sure I'm not the only one. However, for you it may be condiments, over the counter meds, baking soda or something else. In any case you have a surplus of something you DON'T need!

Vendors I Love: TORI THE ORGANIZER
I met Tori Cohen a few years ago in a women's networking group. She is so energetic and she SINGS! I tend to highlight folks from the wedding world, however, I thought it time to share those I recommend as part of my premarital counseling practice. It's super clear from the way Tori speaks about her work, that she loves what she does. Many of us hate to organize, so it's best to have someone in your corner that embraces the challenge. Without further ado, here's TORI THE ORGANIZER!

Gratituesday 2.4.20 - Stop and [insert sense here]
Surprisingly enough, the iconic sites of NYC still amaze me. I find that it's important to stop and [insert sense here]. Sure, we always think about stopping and smelling the roses, but for me it's usually visual.

Celebration Thursday 1.30.20 - What's Needed?
On my counseling in-take form, I ask my couples how they prefer their partner reacts when they're scared or hurting. It's usually an easy question for each individual to answer and it clarifies WHAT'S NEEDED in THE MOMENT. The bigger question is however, is their partner ACTUALLY doing it.

Gratituesday 1.21.20 - Hindsight is 2020
There has been lots of talk around vision as we entered 2020. Hindsight is 2020, for example was mentioned A LOT. It got me thinking about the decisions I've made recently, and if I knew what I know now, would I have made other choices.

Celebration Thursday 1.2.20 - Welcome Home!
Welcome to 2020, and for me it's finally Welcome Home. Welcome to my new home, that is. Some of you may know that I've struggled for the last few years trying to find an apartment in Manhattan, and then once I found one, it was equally challenging to not only purchase, but renovate and then inhabit. I believe I've said it before, but this process is not for the faint of heart.

Celebration Thursday 12.5.19 - Listening Up!
In one of my meditations this week, I spoke about quieting the body and the mind in order to pay attention to the world around us. Really, just being able to LISTEN UP. And I tend to share things that I need to hear myself. There is so much clutter in the world around me, that it's important to be able to let go of the distractions and just listen.

Gratituesday 11.26.19 - Decisions, decisions, decisions
I am at the home renovation stage where I need to make lots of decisions. Well, get multiple estimates and then make decisions. There are lots of options out there and it can be overwhelming. I try to keep this in mind as engaged couples reach out to me.

Gratituesday 11.12.19 - Rainy Day Productivity
Today is the first rainy day in a while. I really want to curl up on the couch with a cup of tea and watch movies all day. However, I need to keep moving as I have too much to do.

Gratituesday 11.5.19 - Climbing Uphill
This entire year, I've been climbing uphill. Okay, take that back. I've been climbing uphill for the last 2 years. I have been working my tushy off so I'm set up for a bit of ease. Not coasting downhill or anything, but ease.

Celebration Thursday 10.24.19 - Symbols of Fall
There are many symbols of fall and they are all quite relevant in my life, currently. Change, Mystery, Protection, Comfort and Letting Go. The last one - letting go - holds a regular place in my meditation practice, and the first one - change - is pretty much a constant in my life. However the middle 3 are very powerful, yet I don't consider them as often.

Gratituesday 9.24.19 - Just tired
I have to be honest and say that I'm tired. I really don't have much to share, or perhaps I cannot find the words to express. Yeah, I'm just tired.

Gratituesday 9.10.19 - Let it Go!
I always write my Weekly Lists before the blog post introduction. My final DESIRE was originally - To let go of the disappointment that others rarely give as much as I do, but to keep giving anyway! Yes, I did start singing the song from Frozen. Then I quickly stopped because my nephew HATES that song.

Gratituesday 9.3.19 - Ready and Waiting
My life is all about being ready...ready and waiting. In the past it was Atlanta traffic and being on hold for acting gigs. Now in New York, it's all about subway delays and waiting for responses from wedding couples.

Gratituesday 8.27.19 - Transition into Adulthood
One of my high school classmates posted a book on Facebook about guiding teenage girls as they transition into adulthood. It's called Untangled by Lisa Damour, a clinical psychologist out of Ohio. I have a rather quiet week, and I need to catch up on expanding my resources. So, I checked the book out of library and started to read.

Zen Weddings: Creating Expectations
Before each and every counseling session, I ask my couples for an agenda of what they may want to cover. Usually they pick one of The Big Issues off the list, but sometimes they go rogue.
